Core Concepts

Kite-U is designed around the metaphor of a kite: tethered to you, free to fly. Your AI companion is always connected to you through your conversations and shared context, but it has the autonomy to explore, process information, and take action on your behalf.

Everything in Kite-U revolves around events. An event can be:

  • A message you send in chat
  • A web page you share via the browser extension
  • A scheduled task or reminder
  • A background observation from your AI companion

Events flow into an Inbox where your AI companion processes them — reading, summarizing, and taking appropriate action.

Kite-U uses a layered memory architecture:

  • Conversation History — Recent messages in your current thread
  • Long-term Memory — Important facts, preferences, and context extracted from conversations
  • Knowledge Base — Files and notes you explicitly add for your AI to reference

Your AI companion automatically manages its memory, deciding what’s worth remembering and how to organize it.

Knowledge Mode gives you a file explorer for your AI’s knowledge base. You can:

  • Browse and organize memory files
  • Manually create or edit knowledge entries
  • View version history of any file
  • See how your AI has organized its understanding of you

Kite-U’s AI companion can act autonomously in the background:

  • Processing events from your inbox
  • Researching topics you’ve asked about
  • Writing diary entries to consolidate its understanding
  • Managing tasks and reminders

This happens asynchronously — you’ll see the results next time you open your Space.
